I'm Jack Phillips, a high school football player, class of 2025. I always had dreams to play in college, but no idea about how to achieve any of them. I did not even know I needed to promote myself so much. My recruitment literally made a 180 when Coach Derek Bertrand stumbled upon my HUDL highlight video, by pure chance. His guidance and suggestions have MADE my recruiting a reality instead of just a dream.
Coach Bertrand’s experience immediately identified the problems with my original Junior Highlight film. He taught me how to effectively use HUDL’s tools to make me easily identifiable on the field. His advice to shorten the clips and prioritize my best plays was a huge factor in getting it to where it is now.
Coach Bertrand's understanding of what college coaches look for in highlights led to a MONSTER increase in my video’s views, now over 15k, and regular contact from interested coaches and recruiters. His connections in the college recruiting world have opened doors for me, leading to multiple college invitations to tour and experience teams. Two coaches had a locker with my name already on it and like 5 uniforms with my high school jersey number!
Coach Bertrand’s influence goes beyond just improving my film. He has been an encouraging presence in my recruiting process since that first DM he sent telling me why I wasn't getting noticed. Coach continues supporting my path and promoting me within his network. His coaching experience gives him the perspective needed to help with recruiting. I tell all my teammates and anyone else I talk to about Coach Bertrand and how he has helped me. My dad always is a teacher and has always taught me about "design thinking," to solve problems. Coach Bertrand gave me my "Spark," that ignited my recruiting journey. I believe he can help anyone.

He cleared the College Football path for me, whenever I needed him he was always there for me without him wanting anything in return. Helping me and many other athletes from the bottom of his heart. As an international player it was hard getting chance to play college football, however Coach Bertrand made it possible and got some good offers.
